Game Vision Statement

 Game Vision Statement

In this post i will share my thoughts and my research that i have delved into since we started developing ideas for our game. I will describe how the game will play and what elements and features it will contain.

For my game idea i chose to make it a car racing game that will include other elements/game-modes. I really think that racing games are open to all ages and are suitable and enjoyable for everyone no matter what age or gender. I think its safe to say we all love getting behind the steering wheel of a nice car and going really really fast.

To this day racing games still continue to be some of the best and most popular games in the world, just from a quick google search i found an article that listed racing games in the top 10 types of games for 2020.

Here is a another link to an article that greatly helped me when it came to writing this blog post, it provided some great topics and ideas to cover when giving a game proposal to a client/publisher.

Introduction - The name of my game will be "DC's Drift Racing". The aim of this game is to play and have fun while doing it, the player can set high scores in the "Drift" mode and earn three different medals, bronze, silver and gold. The player earns points by staying on the track and hitting the right angles as they turn a corner. The higher the score the better the result.

Another feature included in this game will be the "Time Attack" game mode where the player has to get from the start of the track to the end under a certain time limit all while they manage the fuel consumption on the car itself, in this game mode there will be collectible items on the track. The collectibles will be fuel canisters that will add to the fuel tank and let the player carry on racing but if you run out of fuel you loose the race so manage it wisely!

The third game mode that i will include is a mode called free roam that includes a wide open map where the player can explore and practice their racing and drifting skills before they go put their skills to the test in the two previous competitive modes.

I think having these three modes will spark an interest with a lot of players as there is a bit of  diversity when it comes to picking a game mode.

Description  - This game is open to everyone that wants to play it, theirs no age limit and anyone can play. I want this game to be an open book and i want everyone to be able to enjoy it whether you like driving or not you can still have some fun because its a game. There will be 3 game modes that the player can select, Time Attack, Drift, Free roam.

All three game modes will offer different experiences and different race tracks.

Time Attack - This race track will consist of long roads and tight bends the player will have to practice to beat the required times to earn a medal.

Drift - This race track will have wide roads and huge bends that will allow the player to maximize when it comes to earning those drifting points.

Free Roam - This will be an open circuit with limited boundaries so the player has the ability to travel around the whole map.

 Game Genre

The genre of my game will be a racing game in third person perspective.  The vehicle will be on land and i think i will get the best result out of this game if i use a popular car that all players will recognize.

Game play

This game will have three playable game modes included with a different map/track for each one.

I will try to make the driving mechanics feel as close to the real thing as i possibly can get but i know this will be a real challenge.

In the end this is how i want my finished game to look like, i will include a speedometer and have lap times and show the drift points in the drift mode so the player can visually see how much points they are earning and how fast the car is going.

  1. Hi Darragh,

I am very impressed with your game idea as well as the very challenging rules you implied to it, you completely went outside the box to come up with it so, well done.

I am curious about your points system, how it going to work if the player mange's to all do three modes?. You mentioned all three modes will offer a different a experience and also you mentioned the player can select from the three modes. does that mean the player can select one mode and still win the game? which brings me to the first question, How is the points system going to work?

I was wondering if you could add points limit to your game because it seems as if the player can choose what they want to do in the game. I think points limit would motivate the player to complete the game and get the medal they want bronze, silver and gold.

  2. Hey Darragh, really cool game idea that you got here bud. Really love the idea that your going down the route of making a racing game, games like this where you want to get the highest score possible can get really addicting so great idea of adding points. Also love all the game modes that you mentioned. Really cool that you want to have it first person but I wonder if making it first will be cool to who knows? Making the game as close to real life as possible is a sweet idea, hate games when your driving and they feel cartoony and unrealistic. Overall great game idea well done!! Best of Luck

  3. Hi Darragh, starting off. I love your game idea. You really thought this through. I love how you're going to make 3 different game modes that are very different from one another. I really think that is a great idea as it give the player an option to "get a break" from one game mode but still play your game. I can't wait to see your progress with this game! Denis.
